Computer Network Defense (CND) - For the purpose of this Instruction, CND is actions taken under legal authority to protect, monitor, analyze, detect, and respond to unauthorized activity in DoD information systems and computer networks. Unauthorized activity may include disruption, denial, degradation, destruction, exploitation, or access to computer networks, information systems or their contents, or theft of information. CND protection activity employs IA protection activity and includes deliberate actions taken to modify an assurance configuration or condition in response to a CND alert or threat information.
